EUREKA MATH/ENGAGE NY

Here at MS 137, our Math Department utilizes the enVision math curriculum. This curriculum is standards-aligned and uses visual and problem-based learning to help students develop their math concepts. In grades 6-8, the program includes resources to support student choice. There is also an Algebra 1 component to support our students taking the Algebra 1 regents. enVision math utilizes the Savvas Realize platform as a learning management system (LMS) that provides a digital platform for students to access their coursework online. This online platform can be accessed using this link.
In addition, we supplement our lessons with resources from the EngageNY math platform. EngageNY is designed to help students:

  • Understand math concepts through a logical sequence of modules.
  • Build confidence and reduce fear of math.
  • Connect math to real-world applications.
  • Develop persistence in problem solving.
  • Prepare for advanced math.

ENGLISH LANGUAGE ARTS

We are thrilled to announce the launch of the HMH Into Literature curriculum at MS 137! This innovative program is designed to engage our students in meaningful reading and writing experiences, fostering a deeper appreciation for literature. With a diverse selection of texts and integrated multimedia resources, Into Literature encourages critical thinking, collaboration, and creativity.

One of the standout features of this curriculum is the incorporation of the Notice and Note signposts, which are key strategies that help students identify important moments in texts. By focusing on signposts such as “Contrast and Contradiction,” “Aha Moment,” and “Tough Questions,” students will develop stronger analytical skills and a more profound understanding of the narratives they encounter. These strategies empower our learners to interact with texts more deeply, fostering discussions that enhance comprehension and engagement.

Additionally, we are excited to embed our proven schoolwide instructional protocols into the new curriculum to further support student achievement. These evidence-based practices have been successful in enhancing learning outcomes and will complement the HMH Into Literature program, ensuring that every student receives the support they need to thrive.

Our teachers will utilize this curriculum to inspire students to explore various genres, cultures, and perspectives, helping them connect with the world around them. Through interactive lessons and a focus on essential literacy skills, we aim to cultivate a love for reading and a passion for storytelling.

Stay tuned for updates on how this curriculum will enhance our students’ learning experiences throughout the year. We can’t wait to see the exciting discussions and discoveries that will unfold in our classrooms!

SOCIAL STUDIES

We are pleased to highlight our ongoing commitment to the Passport Social Studies curriculum, now enhanced with the integration of the Civics for All initiative at MS 137! This engaging program immerses students in a thorough exploration of history, geography, and culture, while fostering informed and engaged citizenship.

The Passport curriculum provides a comprehensive framework for understanding the complexities of our world, encouraging students to connect past events with present-day issues. With the addition of Civics for All, we empower our students with the knowledge and skills necessary to become active participants in their communities and the democratic process. Through engaging lessons and project-based learning, students will gain a deeper understanding of their rights and responsibilities as citizens.

We are also embedding our proven schoolwide instructional protocols into this curriculum to further enhance student achievement. These evidence-based practices will ensure that every student receives the support they need to excel in their understanding of social studies and civic engagement.

In addition, we will utilize the Nonfiction Notice and Note signposts to help students navigate and comprehend nonfiction texts effectively. By focusing on key strategies such as “Key Ideas,” “Text Structure,” and “Author's Purpose,” students will develop critical analytical skills that enhance their understanding of informational materials.

Our teachers are eager to inspire students to think critically about historical events, explore diverse perspectives, and engage in impactful discussions. We believe this approach will foster a sense of responsibility and connection to their communities and the world at large.
