The MS 137 Track and Field team is sponsored by the CHAMPS sports program and Rising New York Road Runners.
Through Rising New York Road Runners, we have the opportunity to participate in numerous Track and Field events during the school year. Some of these events include the Coney Island 1 Mile Run (a Mr. Linden favorite), Global Running Day, Queens track and field meets and various races that take place in Central Park, Icahn Stadium and other venues in New York City.
The Track and Field season begins in the middle of March and ends in the middle of June. Students have to try out for the team and are accessed based on their character, leadership qualities, level of respect shown to peers, coaches and self, and their participation during practices. Students who attend and actively participate in practices are given priority to attend the meets/events during the Track season.
What do students learn from Track and Field?
The Track and Field program is coached by Mr. Linden (8th year coaching Track), Ms. Finkel (3rd year coaching Track) and Mr. Partap (4th year coaching Track). Each year, we have former Track students return as volunteers to support the team for their high school's community service.
